MTV Networks channel Spike TV has extended its strategic partnership with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) by another three years, including a bounty of up and coming events.
Under a deal brokered (ie PIMPED) by Endeavor, Spike’s grip over UFC events now extends until 2011. It covers seasons 9-13 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF); 12 live UFC Fight Nights (UFNs); 39 hours of UFC Unleashed; and two seasons of a new, weekly live fight series called “Dana Does Dallas”. sike.

It seems a bounty of items had The Natural on the ropes about his continued relationship with Dana White and the UFC, but the final straw for Randy was when he learned of the negotiations going down with Fedor. According to reports, Fedor Emeliananko, regarded as the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter in the world was receiving offers that blew the 11 year UFC veteran’s compensation out of the water.
Couture had the following to say of the matter:
”I’m tired of feeling this way, of giving my all, doing my best to represent this sport in a positive way, and not being appreciated,” Couture said at a news conference inside a fighting ring at his Las Vegas business headquarters.
“I don’t want to make a big deal about the money, but how do you show you respect to an athlete? By how you pay him.”
Couture had been paid $250,000 for his dismantling of Gabriel Gonzaga, but had expected to receive post fight bonuses for his performance. After having asked White for an additional $500,000 and receiving nothing, Couture announced his departure from the UFC.
“Did they not think I was serious?” Couture asked. “I’m an idiot?”
Dana White explained the bonuses are “discretionary”.
Regarding his future in the MMA world, Couture has denied the existence of contract negotiations with another fight organization and is likely to work out a single fight contract with the M-1 Fighting organization.
Pimp Out.
